Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy

At Gran Canaria Divers, we aim to provide our guests with a safe, professional and well-organised experience.

Our activities require advance planning and the reservation of instructors, guides, equipment, boats and other operational resources. The following cancellation conditions therefore apply to all bookings made with Gran Canaria Divers.

1. General Conditions

This Cancellation Policy applies to all services provided by Gran Canaria Divers, including e-learning and digital training materials, diving courses, Discover Scuba Diving, certified diving, dive packages, snorkeling, freediving and other booked activities.

The Cancellation Policy applies regardless of whether a booking is made through our website, by email, by telephone or via WhatsApp.

The method used to make a booking does not change the applicable cancellation periods or cancellation conditions, except where specific legal requirements apply to online or distance contracts.

Cancellation periods are calculated from the scheduled starting date and time of the booked activity or course.

Where a refund is available under this Cancellation Policy and a 10% administration fee applies, the fee is calculated on the refundable amount.

Non-refundable e-learning or other digital training materials are excluded from the refundable amount before the administration fee is calculated.

2. Online Bookings

Bookings made directly through the Gran Canaria Divers website are subject to the same Cancellation Policy as bookings made by email, telephone or WhatsApp.

Before completing an online booking, customers are given the opportunity to review and accept the applicable Cancellation Policy.

For activities involving scuba diving or freediving, participants must also review the applicable medical requirements and confirm, to the best of their knowledge, that they meet the medical requirements for participation.

Where the applicable medical questionnaire or applicable regulations require evaluation or clearance by a physician, the participant must obtain the required valid medical clearance before participating. Gran Canaria Divers cannot permit the participant to dive without the required valid medical clearance.

If a participant confirms during the online booking process that they meet the applicable medical requirements but it subsequently becomes apparent that physician clearance was required due to a pre-existing medical condition, medical history, medication or other relevant circumstance, and the participant cannot provide the required clearance, the booking is subject to the Pre-existing Medical Conditions and Required Medical Clearance provisions of this Cancellation Policy and does not qualify for a refund on that basis.

Where e-learning or other digital training materials are included in an online booking and are supplied before practical training begins, the customer may be required to expressly consent to the supply and assignment of those digital materials and acknowledge the applicable cancellation and withdrawal conditions before the materials are assigned.

Bookings for leisure activities scheduled for a specific date or period may be excluded from the general statutory right of withdrawal applicable to certain distance contracts in accordance with applicable consumer law.

3. E-Learning and Digital Training Materials

E-learning and other digital training materials that have already been purchased and assigned to a participant are non-refundable.

Once assigned, these materials remain available to the participant independently of whether the practical part of the course is subsequently completed.

If a booking includes both digital training materials and practical training, any applicable refund relates only to the refundable portion of the booking.

4. Diving Courses

Cancellations made more than 14 days before the scheduled course start date are eligible for a refund, less any non-refundable e-learning or digital training materials and a 10% administration fee on the remaining refundable amount.

Cancellations made 14 days or less before the scheduled course start date are non-refundable, except where a specific exception under this Cancellation Policy applies.

Once a course has started, no refund will be provided if the participant voluntarily withdraws or is unable to complete the course for participant-related reasons.

This may include difficulties completing required skills, equalisation problems, anxiety, panic, discomfort, insufficient physical fitness or other personal circumstances.

Participation in and successful completion of a diving course are subject to the prerequisites, performance requirements and applicable standards of the relevant training programme, including applicable PADI Standards.

Payment for a course does not guarantee successful completion or certification.

Unable to Complete a Course

If a participant is unable to complete a course after it has started, no refund will be provided for the unused portion of the course where the inability to complete it is attributable to the participant.

Where applicable training standards and circumstances allow, Gran Canaria Divers may offer the participant the opportunity to return and complete the remaining training with Gran Canaria Divers within one year, subject to availability and applicable training requirements.

5. Discover Scuba Diving

Cancellations made more than 72 hours before the scheduled activity are eligible for a refund subject to a 10% administration fee.

Cancellations made 72 hours or less before the scheduled activity are non-refundable, except where a specific exception under this Cancellation Policy applies.

Once the activity has started, no full or partial refund will be provided if the participant is unable or unwilling to complete the activity for participant-related reasons, including equalisation difficulties, anxiety, panic, seasickness, discomfort, cold or insufficient physical fitness.

6. Certified Diving

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled diving activity are eligible for a refund subject to a 10% administration fee.

Cancellations made 48 hours or less before the scheduled diving activity are non-refundable, except where a specific exception under this Cancellation Policy applies.

If a participant decides not to take part in one or more previously booked dives or becomes unable to participate for participant-related reasons, the unused dive or dives are non-refundable.

This includes situations where a participant completes one booked dive but subsequently decides or becomes unable to participate in another booked dive because of tiredness, seasickness, dizziness, cold, discomfort, equalisation difficulties, anxiety, panic, insufficient fitness or similar participant-related circumstances.

7. Dive Packages

Cancellations of Dive Packages made more than 14 days before the scheduled start date are eligible for a refund subject to a 10% administration fee.

Cancellations made 14 days or less before the scheduled start date are non-refundable, except where a specific exception under this Cancellation Policy applies.

Once a Dive Package has started, unused dives are non-refundable where the participant voluntarily decides not to use them or becomes unable to participate for participant-related reasons.

8. Snorkeling and Freediving

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled activity are eligible for a refund subject to a 10% administration fee.

Cancellations made 48 hours or less before the scheduled activity are non-refundable, except where a specific exception under this Cancellation Policy applies.

Once the activity has started, no full or partial refund will be provided where the participant chooses not to continue or becomes unable to complete the activity for participant-related reasons.

9. Medical Requirements and Fitness to Dive

Scuba diving and freediving require an appropriate level of physical and mental fitness.

Participants are required to complete the applicable medical self-declaration honestly and accurately and are responsible for providing complete and accurate information concerning their fitness to participate.

Certain medical conditions, medical history or medications may require evaluation and clearance by a physician before participation.

These may include, but are not limited to:

  • lung, breathing, heart or cardiovascular conditions;
  • asthma, wheezing or certain respiratory conditions;
  • certain cardiovascular risk factors, including high blood pressure;
  • ear, sinus or balance problems;
  • recent surgery or ongoing problems resulting from previous surgery;
  • difficulty performing moderate physical exercise;
  • loss of consciousness, seizures, epilepsy, recurring migraines or certain neurological conditions;
  • certain psychological conditions, panic attacks or treatment relating to drug or alcohol addiction;
  • diabetes;
  • certain back problems or hernias;
  • certain stomach or intestinal conditions; and
  • the use of certain prescription medications.

Having one of these conditions does not necessarily mean that a participant cannot dive. However, depending on the answers provided on the applicable medical questionnaire, evaluation and clearance by a physician may be required before participation.

Participants who are pregnant or attempting to become pregnant must not participate in diving activities.

Where medical clearance is required under the applicable medical questionnaire or applicable regulations, Gran Canaria Divers cannot permit the participant to dive unless the required valid medical clearance is provided.

Pre-existing Medical Conditions and Required Medical Clearance

Participants are responsible for disclosing relevant medical information honestly and for obtaining any required medical clearance before participation.

If a participant confirms that they meet the medical requirements for participation but it subsequently becomes apparent that a pre-existing medical condition, medical history, medication or other circumstance requires physician clearance and the participant cannot provide the required clearance, this does not create an entitlement to a refund.

The same applies where relevant medical information has been withheld, incorrectly declared or not disclosed when required to determine whether medical clearance is necessary.

Where reasonably and operationally possible, Gran Canaria Divers may allow additional time to obtain the required physician clearance or may offer rescheduling. This is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Medical Cancellation Due to Illness or Injury

If a participant becomes unable to participate due to illness, injury or another medical reason, a medical certificate issued by a physician must be provided in order for a medical cancellation and refund to be accepted.

The medical certificate must confirm that the affected participant is medically unable or medically advised not to participate in the booked activity and must relate to the relevant booking date or period.

Where an appropriate medical certificate is provided, the amount paid by the affected participant for the cancelled activity will be refunded subject to a 10% administration fee.

The medical cancellation exception applies only to the participant to whom the medical certificate relates.

If a partner, family member, friend or another participant included in the same booking chooses not to participate because the affected participant is unable to participate, the normal cancellation conditions continue to apply to that person.

The illness or injury of one participant therefore does not automatically entitle other participants in the same booking to a medical cancellation or refund.

E-learning and other digital training materials that have already been purchased and assigned remain non-refundable.

This medical cancellation exception does not apply where the reason for being unable to participate results from a pre-existing medical condition or circumstance that required medical clearance before participation and the participant failed to disclose it or obtain the required clearance.

10. No-Shows and Late Arrivals

No-shows are non-refundable.

Participants are responsible for arriving at the agreed meeting point at the communicated time.

If a participant arrives too late to take part in the scheduled activity, particularly where the boat, instructor, guide or group can no longer reasonably wait, the missed activity is non-refundable.

Gran Canaria Divers will make reasonable efforts to accommodate minor delays where operationally possible but cannot delay boats, courses or scheduled activities where doing so would affect other participants or operations.

11. Changes Requested by the Customer

Requests to change the date or time of an existing booking are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Gran Canaria Divers will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requested changes where operationally possible.

A customer-requested change or rescheduling does not automatically create a new cancellation period or extend the cancellation deadline applicable to the original booking.

12. Cancellation or Withdrawal During an Activity

Once an activity has started, no full or partial refund will normally be provided if a participant voluntarily stops, decides not to continue or becomes unable to continue for circumstances attributable to the participant.

This may include seasickness, dizziness, cold, discomfort, fear, anxiety, panic, equalisation difficulties, tiredness or insufficient physical fitness.

This reflects the fact that the participant’s place and the necessary staff, equipment, boat capacity and other operational resources have already been reserved and provided.

13. Safety-Related Termination of an Activity

The safety of participants, staff and other guests takes priority at all times.

Gran Canaria Divers, its instructors, guides and boat crew may prevent a participant from entering the water or terminate an activity where continuing would, in their professional judgement, create an unacceptable safety risk.

Where the safety issue results from circumstances attributable to the participant, including failure to follow safety instructions, unsafe behaviour, inability to perform required skills safely, panic, medical issues, alcohol or drug use, or other circumstances affecting the participant’s ability to participate safely, no refund will be provided for the affected activity.

14. Weather, Sea Conditions and Safety

Diving, snorkeling and other water-based activities depend on weather, sea and safety conditions.

Gran Canaria Divers may change the planned dive site, departure time, schedule, route or organisation of an activity where reasonably necessary due to weather, sea conditions, safety or operational circumstances.

A change of dive site or reasonable adjustment to an activity does not constitute a cancellation where a suitable and safe alternative can reasonably be provided.

If conditions do not allow the booked activity to take place safely, Gran Canaria Divers will first attempt to reschedule the activity or provide a suitable alternative.

If the activity must be cancelled by Gran Canaria Divers and rescheduling or a suitable alternative is not reasonably possible for the participant, the amount paid for the cancelled activity will be refunded in full.

No administration fee will be deducted.

15. Cancellation by Gran Canaria Divers

Gran Canaria Divers reserves the right to cancel an activity or course where reasonably necessary due to weather or sea conditions, safety concerns, technical or operational problems, instructor or staff availability, or other circumstances preventing the activity from being conducted safely and properly.

Where reasonably possible, Gran Canaria Divers will first offer a suitable alternative date, time, dive site or equivalent activity.

If Gran Canaria Divers cancels the booked service and no suitable alternative or rescheduling can reasonably be agreed, the customer will receive a full refund for the affected cancelled service.

No 10% administration fee will be deducted where Gran Canaria Divers cancels the service.

E-learning and digital training materials already purchased and assigned remain non-refundable because those materials remain available to the participant.

16. Refunds and Administration Fees

Where a customer cancellation qualifies for a refund under this Cancellation Policy, a 10% administration fee will be deducted from the refundable amount.

Non-refundable e-learning and digital training materials already purchased and assigned are excluded from the refundable amount.

Where Gran Canaria Divers cancels an activity and no suitable rescheduling or alternative can reasonably be agreed, the affected service will be refunded without deduction of the 10% administration fee.

Where a medical cancellation qualifies for a refund under the medical provisions above, the refund applies only to the affected participant and is subject to the 10% administration fee.

Refunds will normally be returned using the original payment method where reasonably possible.

17. Exceptional Circumstances and Goodwill

Gran Canaria Divers may voluntarily offer a rescheduling, credit or refund in exceptional circumstances even where this Cancellation Policy does not require one.

Any such arrangement is a gesture of goodwill and does not create an entitlement to the same exception for another booking, participant or circumstance.

18. Acceptance of the Cancellation Policy

By completing a booking, the customer confirms that they have had the opportunity to read and accept this Cancellation Policy.

Participants are responsible for providing accurate information relevant to their booking and participation, including information concerning certification, experience and medical fitness.

If you have any questions regarding these cancellation conditions or the requirements for your booked activity, please contact Gran Canaria Divers before your activity.
