What to Expect on Your First Scuba Dive
Your Discover Scuba Diving Gran Canaria experience starts at our dive centre directly by the beach in Puerto de Mogán.
1. Introduction and Safety Briefing
Your PADI professional will explain the basic principles of scuba diving, introduce you to the equipment and cover the most important safety rules. You will learn how to breathe underwater, communicate using hand signals and use your diving equipment correctly.
2. Equipment and Shallow-Water Skills
After getting fitted with your scuba equipment, we enter the water from the beach.
In shallow water, you will have time to get comfortable breathing underwater and practise a few essential diving skills before continuing with the dive.
There is no rush – the goal is for you to feel comfortable and confident before exploring the reef.
3. Your First Dive in the Atlantic Ocean
Once you are comfortable, the real adventure begins.
Together with your PADI professional, you will explore our house reef in Puerto de Mogán. The dive usually reaches a depth of approximately 8–10 metres, depending on your comfort level, the conditions and the dive itself.
The maximum depth for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving open water dive is 12 metres.
Your underwater time is normally around 30–45 minutes, depending on air consumption and conditions.

Loved your first scuba diving experience? You don’t have to stop after your first dive.
After successfully completing your initial PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience at our house reef in Puerto de Mogán, you may have the option to join us for an additional Discover Scuba Diving open water dive from our boat.
If you join us for an additional dive shortly after your initial Discover Scuba Diving experience, there is normally no need to repeat the complete introductory session and shallow-water skills. Instead, you can enjoy another supervised dive at one of our suitable dive sites, with a maximum depth of 12 metres.
Participation in the additional boat dive depends on your comfort and performance during your first Discover Scuba Diving experience, as well as the diving conditions and suitability of the dive site.
Just ask our team after your first dive if you would like to continue your underwater adventure from the boat.
